Portrait of Dominique Pellen: shaved head, short grey beard, dark-framed glasses and a black jacket, against a dark background

From his first explorations of drawing and creation to his experience of fashion houses and teaching, the path of Dominique PELLEN has been guided by one and the same passion:

to understand the garment in order to create it better.

Creation

Drawing, creation, patternmaking and sewing

Trained as a stylist-patternmaker at the École de la Chambre Syndicale de la Couture Parisienne, from the very start he built up experience that brings together drawing, creation, patternmaking and sewing.

His path as a designer was soon marked by several distinctions and collaborations with the world of fashion. He worked in particular with houses and designers such as Dior, Lanvin, Balmain, Anne Valérie Hash and Gianfranco Ferré, and, alongside this, developed his work as an art director in France and internationally.

Transmission

Between creation and transmission

But creation is only one part of his path.

From 2003, his experience extended into teaching at the École de la Chambre Syndicale de la Couture Parisienne. Working with students from all over the world, he passed on the standards, the precision and the know-how that belong to the fashion professions.

It was in this encounter between creation and transmission that a new way of approaching patternmaking gradually took shape.

The method

A tool for creative freedom

His experience made him realise that a solid mastery of the principles of construction can become a tremendous tool for creative freedom.

From this conviction the dp studio method was born, then the dp studio house.

Today, Dominique PELLEN carries on this desire to pass on demanding, precise and creative patternmaking:

to provide the means to understand the garment, so that everyone can develop their own creations.
